PULA FILM FESTIVAL PRESS CONFERENCE – JUNE 20, 2013
At the beginning of the week the Pula Film Festival announced its record number of films in the National Programme – as much as twenty-four. At today’s press conference held in the Valli Cinema’s lobby the Festival announced this year’s music programme. It is not a novelty that there are good concerts taking place at the time of the festival. According to the list of performers, this year will not be different. Sanela Omanović, the director of the music programme of the 60th Pula Film Festival, announced the programme: “It is made up of bands and performers that intertwine different music genres and that could not be categorized as pertaining to one single expression. This will be a combination of ska, punk, pop, swing jazz, country, soul, rockabilly and many more different rhythmic combinations. Concerts will take place on three locations, in front of the Arena, at the Festival’s Centre and on the Forum, and they will be free of charge.” The following bands and performers will perform at this year’s Festival: Elvis Jackson, City of Pula Wind Orchestra, Svadbas, Damir Kukuruzović, Kawasaki 3p, My Buddy Moose, B and the Bops, Zoran Predin, DJ Funkmaster, 208th Day of the year, Dogma, and The Chweger
Movies were discussed too. Tanja Miličić, the producer of the Festival, presented Pulica, a programme for children who love film that will take place in the morning hours at the Valli Cinema. A series of European films will be screened every day from July 13 – 19 at 10:00a.m. and there will be a special screening of the 1978 film Bosko Buha by Branko Bauer. However, on Saturday, July 27, at 10:15a.m., Pulica will not close with a war story about a bomber Bosko, but rather with the one about ambitious and overly green monsters from the film Monsters University.
Apart from films and good music, the Pula Film Festival opened a call for volunteers and members of the Young Cinephiles Jury. Apart from gaining valuable experience in film festival organization, volunteers will have an opportunity to watch films for free in their spare time, a possibility to meets new people and this will be a good reference for their future career. Volunteers are needed for the period between July 13 and 27 to work on all festival locations and in different areas. Apart from good motivation, the precondition is that they are full of age. On the same web page you can find detailed information about professional film watching. The Young Cinephiles Jury is in the process of formation. If you are full of age and not older than 29, you can apply. Jury members are obliged to watch all films from the national and/or international competition programmes, grade them, follow all the press conferences on the films they are grading, as well as participate in surveys and discussions on the seen films. At the end of the Festival the Jury will grant its own award for best film.
The new sponsor of the Pula Film Festival was presented – Zagrebačka banka. Valter Šarić, the director of Zagrebačka banka’s Istria regional centre, reminded that the bank had been sponsoring cultural events in Pula for many years and he expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Zaba is part of the entertainment programme in the Festival’s centre this year. The Circolo programmes will be held under the motto Zaželi ZABAvu. It is important to mention that Regional Express is the media sponsor of all Festival’s sidebar programmes.
A series of films, numerous workshops and entertainment programmes are part of this year’s Festival so it would be best to follow director Zdenka Višković – Vukić’s recommendation and take a vacation from July 13 – 27, during the Pula Film Festival.
