LE WEEK-END AND ALIENATION CLOSE THE INTERNATIONAL WARM-UP
Tonight at Kastel, at 21:30, we are presenting the romantic drama Le Week-End. Roger Michell’s Le Week-End, written by Hanif Kureishi, centres on a long-married couple. Nick and Meg are revisiting Paris for the first time since their honeymoon in an attempt to rekindle their relationship. During a two-day escapade, diffident, wistful Nick and demanding, take-charge Meg careen from harmony to disharmony to resignation and back again as they take stock of half a lifetime of deep tenderness – and even deeper regret. The film stars Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan, Jeff Goldblum, Olly Alexander and Judith Davis.
Tonight at Kastel, at 23:15, we are presenting the Bulgarian drama Alienation. Director Milko Lazarov’s feature-length directorial debut centres on a man who is crossing the border in an old-fashioned car. A fifty-year-old Greek is heading to Bulgaria to buy a newborn. He is planning to smuggle the child out in a secret compartment in the boot of the car, masked as a gas tank. But the baby hasn’t been born yet, and the Greek needs to wait in a secluded house in the mountains together with the mother, the mother’s deaf-mute brother and the midwife. The film stars Christos Stergioglou, Mariana Jikich, Ovanes Torosian, Neda Iskrenova, Iva Ognyanova, Kitodar Todorov and Dora Markova.
In case of rain, screenings will take place at the Valli Cinema.
