Sixty years in fifty minute
Press Conference: Opening Ceremony Team
On the first press conference day in the Circolo, the 60th Pula Film Festival’s National Programme Opening Ceremony team presented themselves. The team is made up of Tomica Hrupelj, creative director of the agency Organizacija, and Ivan Slipčević. They brought to the Arena the 3D mapping technology – 3D models projected on 3D architecture. This technology changes the perspective, creates illusions and evokes interesting elements and atmosphere in a specific space. Director Zdenka Višković-Vukić thanked the project team that managed to tackle the complexity of the Arena and achieve that their technology used for the purpose of film and recollections for the opening ceremony be presented the way they wanted to present it. Tomica Hrupelj admitted that at the beginning it felt great to work on such a project but from the creative point of view he later realized that it was difficult to remember all the people, events and films that marked the sixty years of the Pula Film Festival in only fifty minutes. The story was built in a narrative manner, from the basics and Pula’s winners, to all the heroes of Pula that remain in our memories and some of whom we can still see on some other screens. Finally, paying homage to all those sixty years, they wanted to take a peek into the future and see in what manners we will be able to reflect on the creation of a film story.
Ivan Slišković told us how the 3D mapping process was simple, but at the same time complex. It is just like film: it all starts with an idea, development, and finally, technology can either hinder or facilitate creative processes. He said it was fun to work with the background such as the Arena and to explore the film-related visuals appropriate for a film festival that can be realized in the Arena. Considering the fact that the use of holographic technology on film sets is on the rise, he did not exclude the possibility of using it again at the Festival and in the Arena.
