The visual identity of the 66th Pula Film Festival was presented today at a press conference held at Valli Cinema small hall. Head of Administrative Department for Culture of the City of Pula Jasmina Nina Kamber, headmaster of the School for Applied Arts and Design Davor Kilman Festival director Gordana Restović and author of the visual identity Marko Rašić from the Rašić+Vrabec spoke to the public.

The call for proposals for the visual identity was open from 23 October to 15 December 2018, and a total of 21 proposals from 16 applicants were received. On 10 January 2019, the commission reviewed and scored the proposals. The commission consisted of Davor Kliman, headmaster of the School of Applied Arts and Design; Ketrin Miličević Mijošek, director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Istria; Mi-odrag Čerina, president of the Governing Council of Pula Film Festival Public Institu-tion; Gordana Restović, director of Pula Film Festival; and Sanela Pliško, spokesperson of Pula Film Festival. Following the scoring, the selection was narrowed down to four applicants: Studio Babaja, Viktor Funčić, Studio Kunazlatica, and Rašić+Vrabec. The commission unanimously selected the proposal by Rašić+Vrabec for its clear dimen-sion of space and time, legibility and applicability.

Jasmina Nina Kamber, who is also a member of the Governing Council of the Festival, said she was pleased with the selected proposal and thanked the Pula Film Festival team for their positive energy and creativity in working toward the City of Pula, deservedly so, being the host of the best national film festival. On behalf of the commission, Davor Kilman said that the decisive factor in making the selection was the versatility of the proposal, which is easily associated with the modern way of communication in a simple and clear way.

In today’s age of communication, transfer of information required clear and legible messages in a very short deadline. Due to limited time, visual solutions com-press their brands into recognisable forms, and the selected proposal fully lives up to this requirement. Linking the visual with the text, it meets the required criteria that will be used in communicating the Festival’s messages, Gordana Restović said.

Author Marko Rašić presented the visual identity and explained that the tra-dition of the Festival is part of the very number of the Festival’s edition, and that the number 66 is powerful and symbolic in itself, allowing the uses and associations of a simple geometric solution. The manifold variations of the number involve a connec-tion providing the observer with a number of suggestions: eyes with eyebrows, glasses, openings through which to peek, blueprint of the Arena, film reel, exclama-tion mark.

Festival director Gordana Restović reminded that this year marks the contin-uation of the practice started last year, in which calls for proposals are announced

each year. Interested authors were informed that the call for proposals for the visual identity of the 67th Pula Film Festival will be announced this autumn. This year’s Fes-tival will be held from 13 to 21 July, with the last day catering to the youngest audi-ences.
